Most of your university’s estate is made up of non-teaching space. Libraries, laboratories, offices, student accommodation blocks – these are vast areas that are often costly to run.

You need to be able to prove they’re being used well. But this can be tricky. In lecture halls and seminar rooms, you can count bums on seats. Non-teaching spaces, however, can be busy one minute and less so the next.
